- Why is it I can open my junior high year book from 1968 and match a name to every face, but I can’t remember the name of a new couples at church 5 minutes after they introduce themselves?
- Friday, I began a scene in the second novel of my mystery series. It describes the protagonist directing the Christmas program in the country school where she teaches. Saturday, the Man of Steel and I cleaned the attic and found the program for one of the Christmas extravaganzas I directed during my country school teaching days. Coincidence or confirmation? I believe it’s the latter.
- The daffodils are blooming. Happy, happy spring!

- A year ago, we were complaining because gas cost $2.42 a gallon. Two months ago, we were rejoicing because gas prices dipped to $1.43. Now we’re complaining because a gallon of gas now costs $1.98. We become ungrateful far too quickly.
- This morning, I was awakened by an unfamiliar noise. I finally identified it as bird song. Ah, spring!
- As a kid, I hated wriggling into tights, wearing a scratchy petticoat, working buttons through the stiff buttonholes of a new dress, pulling on white gloves, and tightening the buckles on my Mary Janes. As an adult, I miss getting gussied with my sister for Easter Sunday services and having Mom take our picture.

- If Benedict Cumberbunnies didn’t cost $70 a pop, I’d want one for my Easter basket.
- Dear Facebook, please continue to tweak your algorithms. The ads populating my news feed about how to tighten saggy chin skin and underpants for women who tinkle are making me not-a-fan. Thank you.
- St. Patty’s Day pinchers, take note. You may not pinch green-eyed people like me. Top of the morning to you!

- The Downton Abbey finale was perfect. After Nurse Jackie ended with a drug overdose and the mysterious Don Draper as mysterious as ever in the last episode of Mad Men, Downton Abbey’s finale where love and compassion make it possible to face changing times with hope and strength made it a story worth watching.
- After the Man of Steel repaired a little guitar for a six-year-old boy, the first grader’s music teacher* sent a thank you with the following message: “My student’s first goal is to pick out the tune to Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. After that, he wants to learn the Smoke on the Water riff.” The Man of Steel’s been smiling since the email arrived.
- Our grandkids will all be together this weekend. I bought Easter props in hopes of getting some fun pictures of the 3 of them. The 3 1/2-year-old will cooperate, but does anyone have suggestions about how to keep bunny ears on a 14-month-old and 11-month-old long enough to take a picture?
*The music teacher is giving this little guy lessons on her own time. For free.

- Oh, my. The first long walk outside, after months of exercising indoors, can make a person shuffle around like an old person for several days afterwards. Don’t ask how I know this.
- If those in charge of this year’s political debates would allow seasoned, elementary school teachers to moderate the events, the behavior of the candidates would shape up in no time flat. A steely teacher stare can put bullies of all ages in their place.
- The BBC’s Father Brown mystery series based on GK Chesterton’s crime-solving Roman Catholic priest, is worth watching. The facial expressions of the main character (played by Mark Williams, best known as Aurther Weasley in the Harry Potter movies) are fascinating, and the show presents a cleric as a loving, wise, and fun-loving person.
Which elementary teacher do you recommend to moderate political debates? Tell us who in the comment box.

- New favorite sound: Grandson’s belly laugh when his fingers touch my toes and I jump back in mock surprise.
- While it’s true that all politicians hold themselves in high regard, I don’t think electing a megalomaniac for president is a wise idea. Wake up, America!
- The three robins hopping around our yard yesterday were a hopeful sight indeed. Once the ground thaws, they can dig worms for entertainment instead of chasing dead leaves swirling in the wind.
