Kitchen accidents, surgical improbabilities, and the dangers of recycling in this week's three thoughts.

  1. Improbable as it sounds, it is possible for a grown woman to lose control of the knife she’s using to remove the label from a container destined for recycling, stab her hand at the base of the thumb, and sever the tendon to thumb, even though the wound is only a centimeter wide and barely bleeds. Don’t ask how I know this.
  2. If such a scenario occurs and the grown woman is examined by a hand surgeon who repairs severed tendons, he may look admiringly at the incision and say, “Talk about surgical precision! The odds of hitting that exact spot on purpose, much less by accident, are almost impossible.”
  3. Not only that, but the surgery team will cut the grown woman a lot of slack for her stupidity because the accident only happened because she was doing her part to save the environment.
