- Mom was not impressed when I told her I was giving up dairy for Lent. Just in case God wasn’t impressed either, I gave up chocolate as well.
- A steaming cup of cinnamon tea and a handful of dried apple slices makes a worthy chocolate substitute during Day 2 of Lent, but will it hold up through Day 40?
- Wet blanket quote of the day: “…eliminating artificial dyes does not turn chocolate bars into health foods,” says Andrew Adesman, regarding Nestle’s announcement they will remove artificial flavors and dyes from their candy bars. Darn!

I just saw this day two and loved your down to earth approach on Lent. As I approached Lent I found myself again looking at what I could take on differently, improve my spiritual life somehow, or the quality of my relationships so they may not feel so one sided, or find a way to do that task I dread in a cheerful way and make it a joyful habit. I think if I give something up knowing I can go back to it I may not be sacrificing as much. Just a thought.
That is so true, Henrietta. I give something up so that when I want that thing, it shifts my thinking to all Christ gave up for us and thank him once again. The joke here is that I’m allergic to dairy, so I never have it anyway.
