Sis, me, Cousin Nell, and Bro (partially hidden) a few years before the Remsen Pool days
- I heard Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, I Got Love in My Tummy on the radio yesterday. It took me straight back to childhood, dancing to the tune with my sibs and cousins in the Remsen pool in the 60s. Suddenly, I felt young again.
- But the Remsen pool is gone now, along with most pools from my childhood–the Le Mars Public Pool, the pool in our junior high school, and the one at church camp. Suddenly, I felt very, very old.
- But then, the radio announcer said yesterday was the coldest first day of spring since 1965. So much for the good old days and the present. I’m gonna’ look forward to the future and warmer days ahead!

- If you would like to stop by for a visit, wait until after the frost is out of the ground. Right now, the car-swallowing ruts on our gravel road are ready and waiting for innocent victims to drive by.
- Between the writing and James Roday, Psych makes me laugh out loud week after week. What show has that effect on you?
- Let’s join hands across denominational lines and pray for the new pope. With a job description like his, he’ll be grateful for all the help he can get!

- Finally, I finished watching the last season of The West Wing. Now I’ll spend the rest of my life wondering, “Wait, is that memory a genuine historic event or was it from a West Wing episode?”
- My dad died 16 years ago this week. At the visitation, my daughter and her two cousins (then ages 7, 7, and 4) stood in the funeral home foyer greeting guests. “If you want food, go through that door.” They pointing to the right. “But if you want to see the dead body, go through that door,” they explained, pointing to the left. Do you suppose the mourners at Hugo Chavis’ funeral will have anywhere near so sweet a memory as that?
- Yesterday, the granddaughter of my fourth grade teacher connected with me via a Pinterest pin of Mom’s fabulous Franklin Chex Mix recipe, originally posted on this blog. How cool is that, and who have you connected with via the magic of the internet?

- First, the forecast was for 12 inches of snow, and we got 3. Next, it was for 2 inches of snow, and we got 6. It was good week to not be a weather person in Iowa.
- On the other hand, it was a wonderful week to be a writer who works from home and doesn’t need to worry about the weather or road conditions.
- This week is a good one to remember C. Everett Koop who died Monday at age 96. He’s best remembered as former Surgeon General of the United States, but at our house he’s remembered as the pediatric surgeon whose pioneering work made the difference between life and death for our firstborn.
How’s this week been good for you? Leave a comment.

- According to two characters in the mystery, Bleeding Hearts, cold weather causes Februaryitis. It’s defined as “thinking about how awful everything’s gotten and how everybody’s attitude is all wrong.” So that’s what’s wrong with me!
- Reading a captivating, complicated, and humorous murder mystery cured my Februaryitis.
- If you’re suffering Februaryitis, consider reading Bleeding Hearts by Jane Haddam. The Armenian neighborhood in Philadelphia is the perfect place to visit while waiting for March and spring to arrive.
Are you suffering from Februaryitis? How do you recommend curing it?

- A little light remained in the western sky last night at 6:40. The eastern horizon was brightening at 6:45 this morning. Lovely proof that daylight hours are increasing.
- Yesterday husband wrapped a cut on his finger with a Lincoln Band Aid. What a lovely way to honor our 16th president’s birthday month!
- When Valentine’s Day falls during Lent, do florists see an uptick and chocolatiers a down tick in sales? Which lovely gift would you rather receive on Valentine’s Day?
