Three Thoughts for Thursday

fresh peach pie

  1. Fresh peach pie season is here. Yum!
  2. Why does it take 3 weeks to get back to speed after a 2 week vacation? Does that kind of math work in any other universe?
  3. This time of year, I love to open the bedroom windows at night so cicada song can lull me to sleep. What’s your favorite summer sound?

ID-100169397

  1. The premier of season 5 of Parenthood, my annual physical, and mammogram are all scheduled for September 26. I’m really looking forward to one of the three.
  2. The sound of a cardinal singing in a tall tree tugged at my heart and brought tears to my eyes this morning. What a beautiful way to start the day.
  3. Favorite summer meal I could eat night after night? BLTs and sweet corn. Yours?

fawn

  1. Dealing with website issues for almost a week at www.DifferentDream.com has revealed two more personal character flaws: I have some unresolved patience issues, and I have as much chance of landing a job in the tech field as making the 2016 Olympic gymnastics team.
  2. The Japanese beetle’s mindset is the insect equivalent of a World War 2 kamikaze pilot mindset: leave no survivors or die trying.
  3. On almost every morning this week, I’ve crossed paths with a doe and her twin fawns. Each encounter is a reminder that God is the Master Creator. What signs of His creativity have amazed you lately?

car computer hackers

  1. Two researchers used grant from the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) to prove it’s possible to hack into smart car computers and mess with the brakes, steering wheel, and other stuff. Suddenly, dumb cars look stunningly attractive to me.
  2. Tuesday an old friend and I talked on the phone. Even though we hadn’t chatted in a long time, the years fell away and our conversation flowed without missing a beat. Friends like that are a blessing.
  3. I kinda hope some hackers listened in on our smart phone conversation. The stories, laughing, and cowboy talk might have made their day. It sure made mine.

strawberries

  1. This morning I saw a Hy-Vee semi with a red trailer emblazoned with the Kansas City Chiefs logo and the words, “Hy-Vee: KC Chiefs Grocery Partner.” Exactly what does that mean?
  2. Note to Charles, the Prince of Wales, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall: Being called Grandpa and Grandma will now trump any other titles you possess.
  3. Highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s, and low humidity. This week’s weather is my definition of heaven.

Three Northern Thoughts for Thursday

Three Northern Thoughts for Thursday

Hatcher Pass

Being married to an Alaskan native (born there before Alaska was a state), our travels often take us to the north country. Our trip to together to Alaska (Hiram arrived home 2 days ago) and my side trip to family camp in Northern Idaho (where I’ll be for several more days) are a case in point and led to these 3 thoughts.

  1. An early July wedding above the Hatcher Pass treeline (see photo above) wasn’t the most comfortable, but it may be the most memorable we’ve ever attended.
  2. Four days is Kodiak isn’t long enough to take in the beauty of the island. Next time, we’ll stay longer. And take winter raincoats, hats, gloves, rubber boots, and extra pairs of socks.
  3. Writing a blog while sitting on a breezy, shady porch and gazing at Idaho mountains may be the closest thing to heaven on this earth. What a gift!

Have you traveled north or in the mountains? What thoughts would you add to the list? Leave a comment!
