Three Thoughts for Thursday

  1. If the no-more-rolls-in-toilet-paper movement catches on, the necklace my grandson made for my birthday may become a collector’s item. Do you need more proof that he’s advanced?
  2. Irony: For the first time ever in our local school district, every classroom sported air conditioning when the kids started classes last week…just in time for the coolest August anyone around here can remember.
  3. Um…have you, like, heard about the…um…study that, you know, says people who, like, pause and use fillers like “um” or “like” or “you know” are more intelligent than, you know, average?

Gecko

  1. Anyone know how to create a news blackout that will keep Mom from learning about the study that found 6 second spurts of exercise can improve health? If she hears about that, she’ll have way too much anti-exercise ammunition to fire at her physical therapists.
  2. Beauty = Watching blue herons soar and shadows fall during a twilight boat ride at the end of a calm summer day.
  3. After hearing a news clip about the Russian geckos lost in space, I believe Jim Henson’s Pigs in Space is a modern day prophecy about to be fulfilled.

The Spark Kristine Barnett

  1. President Eisenhower signed into law the bill that created NASA 1 year and 2 days after I was born. It’s hard to believe the United States was able to conquer space flight, put men on the moon, build the space shuttle, and so much more in 37 years and 363 days.
  2. Delight = Listening to the people in the next booth at Panera discuss ratios and formulas as they study for a college level math examine…and realize you never have to study for those kinds of tests ever again.
  3. Looking for a summer read filled with hope? Try The Spark: A Mother’s Story of Nurturing, Genius, and Autism by Kristine Barnett. You won’t be complaining about “kids these days” once you finish it.

Support-your-local-Sheriff-2

  1. Many, many thanks for your kind birthday wishes. You sure know how to make someone feel like queen for a day!
  2. Did you know that styrofoam packing peanuts are like crack to mice? Don’t ask how I know this.
  3. The world feels so empty without James Garner in it. Wish the kids were here so we could honor him by laughing through our favorite James Garner flick, Support Your Local Sheriff. What’s yours?

Three Thoughts for Thursday

mountain air

  1. Hiram and I were bummed that we had to stay in Iowa rather than go to Family Camp in Idaho’s panhandle last week. But we were delighted when Mother Nature brought mountain air and weather to us for the entire week.
  2. Over the past week, our supper menus have consisted of smoked turkey and sweet corn, BLTs and sweet corn, and grilled chicken breasts with sweet corn. One night we had sweet corn and sweet corn. Hmm…can you see a theme developing?
  3. Did you know the government is working on anti-survelliance clothing that masks a person’s body heat? If they can do that, shouldn’t they be able to eliminate hot flashes in women going through menopause?

What are you eating with sweet corn this week?

Ivy geranium

  1. Contentment = A morning walk with my husband, hanging sheets on the line, and admiring the blooms on the ivy geranium hanging outside the kitchen door.
  2. Who but Terry Pratchett would describe an elderly woman’s face as “a playground for wrinkles.” When I grow up, I want to be able to write descriptions with that kind of creativity.
  3. Someday, if my grandchildren or great-grandchildren are at the mercy of adults in a country much richer and more powerful than ours, I hope no citizens shout obscenities at them and hold signs saying they’re not welcome.
