- For those of you concerned about the upcoming choca-pocalypse, there is hope. If–and this is a big if–all of us band together to implement the chocolate conservation practices outlined in this article. Are you with me on this?
- Nearly lost in translation: “Uh-oh, spaghetti-oes.” Or as my grandson says, “Uh-oh, Betty goes.”
- Thanksgiving food that’s got me salivating already: A tie between tapioca fruit salad and cherry pie. You?

- Thanks to an active imagination, I’ve spent the past two months pretending it’s still summer. Thanks to yesterday’s snowfall, I’m living in the cold, cruel world again.
- Yesterday, Mom described her family’s creative use of catalog pages to finish their business in the outhouse during her childhood in the Great Depression. Now you know why toilet paper holds the number one (no pun intended) spot on my list of what-I’m-thankful-for-this-Thanksgiving.
- Proof that the grandson and I know how to party. We’re planning a weekend gigglefest shouting our favorite new word: KOWABUNGA!
Where do you stand…or sit…in the Great Toilet Paper Debate? A or B?

- While walking by the Halloween-costumes-for-pets display, all I can think about are the health care workers in Africa waiting for hazmat suits.
- Can anyone explain the need for both a paper receipt from Staples and an electronic one?

- Driving through Chicago on the way to Grand Rapids, Michigan is no picnic. But joining fellow authors and my agent at the Breathe Writers’ Conference certainly is.
- I used to love watching quirky family sit coms like The Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, and Green Acres with my dad. Now I like to watch quirky sit coms like Raising Hope, Arrested Development, and Modern Family with my kids. My guess is our grandkids are gonna inherit the quirky humor gene, too.
- An author’s first glimpse at her new book is much like laying eyes on a new baby. She opens the cover, and instead of counting 20 fingers and toes, she counts 15 tabs and sections.
What quirky humor genes do you hope your grandchildren will inherit?

- Repotting and bringing in geraniums for winter led to thoughts of holidays at Grandma’s house, her flowers on every windowsill and plant stand, and rooms crowded with aunts, uncles, and cousins. Good times. Good memories.
- After posting this laundry “receipt” last week, I’ve had a strange urge to kiss our washing machine whenever I throw a load in the wash.
- Which one do you think is the bigger media frenzy? The ebola panic or the pumpkin spice craze?

- Chris Matthew’s book, Tip and the Gipper will make you long for the 1980s when politicians reached across the aisle to get things done. It may also cause you to wonder if the title is Tip and the Gipper or Gip and the Tipper. Don’t ask how I know this.
- What were the decisions makers at Panera Bread thinking when they decided to offer dinner rolls instead of the wonderful baguettes they served for years? My world is no longer complete.
- Space dust kept scientists from viewing the spot in the universe where some believe the big bang did its thing. Had my mom been present at the original event, this would not be a problem.
