In case you are wondering, I did wear plastic bread bags over my shoes in place of boots during my humble, Iowa childhood.
But only when I forgot to pack boots for winter visits to my Minnesota cousins’ farms.
Lest the Minnesota connection disqualifies my humble, Iowa childhood my grandmother (who grew up in Iowa and lived there until she was in her late 20s) wrapped plastic bread bags around wire coat hangers to make the padded hangers which are used at our Iowa address to this very day.

Dolly Parton turned 69 on Monday. That means she was still in her 20s when her song Jolene made me a local sensation during my junior year of high school. Happy birthday, Dolly. You have the voice of an angel.
