Different Dream Vlog Series: Second Opinions

Second Opinions

I’m so glad you stopped by my gravel road today. Our Friday Different Dream vlog series is designed with parents of kids with special needs. You’re so busy with caregiving duties that you need a little pampering now and then. Today’s read aloud from  A Different Dream for My Child: Meditations for Parents of Critically or Chronically Ill Children is my way of pampering you.

The devo for this Friday is called Second Opinions. Once again, this one comes from the diagnosis section of the book. If you’re considering seeking a second opinion for your child or have already done so, this meditation is for you.

Different Dream Vlog Series Guilt

Thank you for stopping for a visit on my gravel road. I taught elementary school from 1978 until 2003 and still miss reading aloud to students. So I decided to revive the practice with the Different Dream vlog series, now a regular Friday feature at my other website DifferentDream.com. Once again I’ll be reading from my book A Different Dream for My Child:Meditations for Parents or Critically or Chronically Ill Children.

This devotional is called What Did I Do Wrong? and deals with a powerful emotion that many parents wrestle with: guilt. If you’ve never experienced guilty thoughts, would you leave a comment about how you avoided that struggle? For the rest of you, which I’m guessing is the vast majority of parents, now’s your time to sit back, enjoy story time, and perhaps identify with what you hear.

Different Dream Vlog Series: Don’t Drive Alone

Different Dream Vlog Series: Don’t Drive Alone

Don't Drive Alone

Hello and welcome to my little gravel road. Every Friday is read aloud time around here. Kind of a throw back to my teaching days when my students came in after lunch recess and relaxed while I read aloud. Parents are busy meeting their families’ needs and involved in the extra duties that come with special needs parenting. With so much to do, you need a chance to relax now and then. Now’s your time to sit back while I read today’s selection from  A Different Dream for My Child: Meditations for Parents of Critically or Chronically Ill Children.

This devo, Don’t Drive Alone, comes from the diagnosis section of the book and speaks to fathers…or anyone else tempted to drive alone to the doctor’s office or hospital after receiving a difficult diagnosis.

Snap decisions

Hello and welcome to story time!  Today’s post is the fourth in the Different Dream vlog series based upon my devotional, A Different Dream for My Child:Meditations for Parents or Critically or Chronically Ill Children.

This devotion comes from the diagnosis section of the book and is entitled Snap Decisions. It’s the true story of the day in 1982 when I had to very quickly make a life and death decision for our son…without even my husband there to consult. The memory of that moment still brings tears to my eyes, as you will see. Consider that your tissue warning!

Different Dream vlog series 2

Ah, you made it through another week. Pat yourself on the back and take a little break. Today’s vlog is another devotional from the diagnosis section of  A Different Dream for My Child. This episode in the Different Dream vlog series is The Blackest Black.

For the seven minutes of this post, consider yourself pampered. You don’t need to find your book, just sit back and put your feet up, and as always, have a tissue handy. This story may bring up memories of your own experience, and if you need to shed a few tears, you’re in good company.
