For those of you who check FaceBook regularly, this announcement is old news. But if you aren’t into the mother of all social networks, please forgive the delay in sharing our family’s latest big news.
See, I’ve been waiting to announce Anne’s engagement to her sweetie until she mailed a picture of her ring so I could post it, too. But it hasn’t yet arrived, and I’ve bowed to the inevitable: there may not be a picture until the daughter gets home on Christmas break (she’s at her fiancee’s home for Thanksgiving) and I can snap a nifty shot of her hand.
So for now, you’ll have to be content with the following juicy wedding tidbits:
- The wedding will be July 11, exactly three months after Allen’s wedding on April 11. (When one’s children are born 6 years apart, what are the odds, they will get married this close together?)
- The wedding guest list will be small as Anne wants to get married under the oak tree in our yard, and the yard has limited seating. But there will be a big reception at the park later in the afternoon.
- The wedding party will be not so small – five groomsmen and five bridesmaids.
- Anne will wear my wedding dress.
- She’ll sew the deep blue silk bridesmaids’ dresses using my bridesmaids pattern, and she’ll sew vests for the groom and groomsmen to wear. Lest you get the wrong mental picture, they will provide their own pants.
- The wedding cake will be carrot.
- Anne wants Allen to play the processional on his guitar. Until she told me that, I didn’t know he played the guitar.
- Anne will finish her senior year of college at whatever school her fiance is accepted into for grad school.
When my mom heard the big news, she said, “So you’ll lose both your kids at the same time.” But after getting to know the fine young adults who loves my daughter and son as much as Hiram and I do, we see the future in different terms.
We’re not losing anything. We’re gaining a fine new son and a wonderful new daughter. And we don’t have to potty train them. But, I do get to buy new clothes, and Hiram and I will attend a couple really fun parties.
Sounds like a good deal to me, whether or not I ever get a picture of the ring.
