In yesterday’s blog, I mentioned that my daughter had created the bridesmaids’ dresses for wedding she was in this past weekend. After years of living with Anne and her Barbie Doll Kleenex creations (rather glamourous when we had a colds, but a pain when it was time to vacuum), her father and I are thrilled that our investment in the Kimberly-Clark and Mattel Companies are reaping benefits.

A Facebook friend asked to see the bridesmaid dresses. That should be an easy request to honor. Somewhere in the 1000+ digital photos I took on Saturday, there should be a good picture of the creations, right? I located several good shots, but the problem is this. The newlyweds, their families, and the wedding party should see the pictures first. After all, they were the main players.

But, middle child that I am, the photo you see above is my solution, guaranteed to pacify all parties involved. This headless, human mannequin gives you a good look at the dresses, which were knee length, by the way. Vogue helped Anne by providing a pattern which she promptly altered, adding the darker purple piping and inset panels. She also added the top V panel on the bodices so the groomsmen wouldn’t become so engrossed in the bridesmaids that they lost track of the wedding ceremony. The bridesmaids liked the panel, too, since it allowed them to bend over without worrying about divulging any trade secrets.

That’s our girl – modest, practical, creative, and a whiz with needle and thread, not to mention Kleenex, Scotch tape, latex gloves, and wire. Life with Anne is never boring!
