Since this week began with a smokin’ episode of Downton Abbey and moved on to Valentine’s Day, it’s no wonder this Thursday’s three thoughts include love triangles. But as for the fixations with hot flashes and Pinterest, I have no idea of their origin.
- The minute Lavinia Swire walked into Downton Abbey, she was the doomed member of the love triangle. In our family, we call it the “Bonanza” principle. It’s named after the 1960s – 70s TV western series where beautiful, female guest stars always died. How about you? Did you see it coming?
- If a picture is worth 1000 words, is there any place on Pinterest for writers?
- If women in their 50s were in charge of utilities companies, they would already have invented heat pumps that could be attached to menopausal, hot flashing women, thus alleviating human suffering and solving the energy crisis in one, fell swoop.
Now it’s your turn. Leave a comment about your Thursday thoughts, even if they don’t include Valentine’s Day, Downton Abbey, Pinterest, and hot flashes.
I loooove Downton Abbey. Confession: I’ve already watched the finale. Love, love, love. Sidenote: I saw a photo of the woman who plays O’Brien – wowza! She’s so dour and sour-faced in DA, but in real life, she’s so pretty.
I’m not on Pinterest and have zero plans to be at this point. My main use for social media is writing/networking/marketing and FB/Twitter are working great for me in that realm. (And the Buffer App has saved my life in terms of managing my FB/Twitter presence.) But I do have like a dozen invites from friends currently on Pinterest who absolutely love it. So, I’m sure it’s fun…and I’m sure if I gave it a go, I’d end up addicted. Thus, I’m staying away. š
Believe it or not, Clare talked me into Pinterest at our writers’ group meeting Tuesday. I’m only using it to post photos of recipes. So far I can’t make heads or tails of it beyond pinning stuff on it. Which is good because like you, I’d be addicted if it made sense!

PS – I’ll have to find a photo of the actress who plays O’Brien. Such a good character. Just when I’m prepared to hate her guts, she does something compassionate. Not fair, but so real!
Didn’t see Livinia’s death coming – such a well-staged plot! But of course! She said repeatedly she could not live without Matthew! The flip on who was worse the evening before and who actually died, well, if the plot was predictable I may not enjoy it as much. I did predict Bates would be arrested. Didn’t know they had Miranda rights that long ago.
Pintinrest could be for writers – whatever is pinned has a url/site – words….no.
Recommend you meet Jane Steen, Jolene. @JaneSteen
The only thing that overwhelms me with tedium more than Facebook? Is Pinterest. Oh My.
Jo: when I try to respond to your blog via iPad, it will not take the password.
Hi Barbara,
See, all those years of watching Bonanza with my dad paid off. I knew Lavinia had to die. I agree with you about the Miranda rights…must have a different name in England, though. I’ll check out Jane on Twitter. Thanks for the rec.
Have a lovely day,
Jolene
Well that’s weird. No doubt someone is working on some sort of plug in or update to clear up the problem. I’ll watch for it.
