Today, I can’t wait to spend the day with a high school bestie. How do I know she’s a bestie?<\/p>\n

Because we, and two other girls, met on the first day of ninth grade.
\nWhen I looked like the girl in the picture above.
\nEven so, the four of us remained friends.
\nNot just that year, but throughout high school.
\nTo this very day<\/p>\n

I’m not someone who wishes to go back to high school and relive it because those were the best years of my life. Because, even though my high school years were very good, now is the best time of my life.<\/p>\n

My husband and I are happy.
\nOur kids are raised.
\nOur grandson is perfect.
\nCamp Dorothy is a hoot.
\nI love my job.<\/p>\n

But if I could have one thing back from high school, I would choose time with my besties. Because we went from ugly ducklings\u2013besties, rest assured I would never post your 9th grade school pictures here\u2013to swans together.<\/p>\n

We studied together,
\nauditioned en masse for plays and speech,
\njoined the same clubs,
\nattended cast parties,
\npined over the same boys,
\nhung out at one another’s houses,
\nthrew pennies on the roof of Pizza Hut,
\nwent to youth group,
\nand had more slumber parties than you can shake a stick at.<\/p>\n

If I could choose one day to relive, it would be when we went all the way to Sioux City\u2013just us 4 girls, no parents\u2013to have our senior pictures (see below) taken and then out to a Chinese restaurant afterwards.<\/p>\n

The memory of that day is precious.
\nThe memory of this day will be precious, too.
\nOne day with a high school bestie.
\nWhen we’re both old enough
\nto recognize the value of one day,
\nthe value of health to enjoy it,
\nthe value of friendships that span decades,
\nthe value of what we had then,
\nthe value of what we have now,
\nand the wisdom to be grateful.
