\"Southwest\"<\/a><\/p>\n

While we waited to board our flight,
\nYou lowered your pregnant body to the floor,
\nAnd play dolls with your daughter,
\nYour attention fully focused on her.<\/p>\n

From the aisle seat across from you, I watched you
\nCalm your little girl, so giddy with excitement about visiting Grandma.
\nYou had a bag full of snacks, toys, and an iPad, which occupied her
\nUntil the command came to power it down and fasten seat belts.<\/p>\n

Then your sweet two-and-a-half year old went ballistic.
\nShe screamed and kicked, threw off her shoes,
\nSquirmed and kicked her way out of the aisle seat twice,
\nUntil somehow you belted her securely into the window seat.<\/p>\n

Not once did you raise your voice.
\nNot once did you spank her bottom or slap her hand.
\nInstead you told her what she had to do,
\nUntil finally she finally obeyed and fell asleep, exhausted.<\/p>\n

Tears streamed down your face,
\nAs you gazed through the window,
\nToo ashamed to make eye contact with me
\nOr the other passengers who’d witnessed the scene.<\/p>\n

While your eyes were fixed on blue sky and clouds,
\nA packet of tissues and a note found its way into the empty seat beside you.
\n“Every parent on this plane’s been where you are today,” the note said.
\n“You’re a good mommy. Always remember that.”<\/p>\n
