Did I trust God\u2019s plan for the life of my child with disabilities?<\/p>\n
That\u2019s a question I\u2019ve been mulling over since our South Dakota camping vacation ended with a surprising twist. The twist being that my husband Hiram testing positive for Covid two days before we were to head home with our camper in tow.<\/p>\n
We were almost 700 miles from home.
Hiram had chills, a fever, body aches, congestion, extreme fatigue, and brain fog.<\/p>\n
My towing-a-camper-behind-a-big-truck skills were abysmal.<\/p>\n
The forecast was for 100+ temperatures on the way home.<\/p>\n
My chances of contracting Covid were high. Very high. Very, very high.<\/p>\n
It wasn\u2019t safe for me to drive home under those conditions.<\/p>\n
My MO in stressful situations is to freak out. This time I didn\u2019t. Instead, I listened to the still small voice in my head.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou are not alone,\u201d it said.
\u201cI have prepared a way to get you home.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou tend to what you can do, while I do the other stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n
What did I tend to?<\/p>\n
First, I called our daughter Anne and her husband Kailen\u2014we live in an intergenerational home with them\u2014about our dilemma. Next, I went to the drugstore and bought N-95 masks and a big bottle of hand sanitizer. After that, I located a nearby Urgent Care Clinic so my husband and I could arrive there early the next morning.<\/p>\n
Then my daughter called and said, \u201cKailen will get you home. We\u2019ll figure it out. You take care of Dad.\u201d<\/p>\n
