Just a bit longer?\u00a0 Guest blogger Stephanie Ballard explores that prayer in this poem.<br \/><\/em><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center;\">A Special Needs Prayer: Just a Bit Longer<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A picture perfect summer day<br \/>Spent playing at the park.<br \/>Soon it&#8217;s time to head on home,<br \/>It&#8217;s starting to get dark.<br \/>And so, I yell, &#8220;It&#8217;s time to go,&#8221;<br \/>(My child starts to cry.)<br \/>He looks at me with pleading eyes,<br \/>And then he asks me, &#8220;Why?&#8221;<br \/>Of all the answers in my mind,<br \/>None seems quite adequate.<br \/>I prepare for what I know will come:<br \/>A full blown crying fit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">He throws himself onto the ground,<br \/>Forgetting Mommy&#8217;s much stronger.<br \/>I lift him up into my arms.<br \/>He wails, &#8220;I wanna stay longer!&#8221;<br \/>And ask we walk on toward the car<br \/>He says, &#8220;Oh, Mommy, please?&#8221;<br \/>I say, &#8220;I&#8217;m sorry, sweetheart,&#8221;<br \/>Then give his hand a squeeze.<br \/>Strapped in his car seat,<br \/>We&#8217;re leaving the part of the day.<br \/>He&#8217;s giving me that petulant look<br \/>That says, &#8220;Why can&#8217;t I have my way?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And as I&#8217;m driving homeward,<br \/>I think, &#8220;Imagine that!<br \/>I can be tough after all.<br \/>I have this drill down pat.<br \/>My child wants what he wants now.<br \/>He does not like to wait.<br \/>I see this trait within myself.<br \/>I can indeed relate.<br \/>He thinks that he will change my mind<br \/>With loud, persuasive tears.<br \/>And yet, this seems to be the way<br \/>That I bring God my fears.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In the moment&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I watched him swimming in the pool,<br \/>All giggles, kicks, and splashes.<br \/>And i could see my life with him,<br \/>A thousand tiny flashes.<br \/>And when we read his favorite book,<br \/>He turned each page with care.<br \/>I thought about my hopes for him,<br \/>While knowing life&#8217;s not fair.<br \/>He wrapped his arms around my neck,<br \/>Lips puckered for a kiss.<br \/>I know I&#8217;d give all I have<br \/>For more times just like this.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">He may not always be with me;<br \/>Life isn&#8217;t always kind.<br \/>Then I will have just memories<br \/>Etched in the depths of my mind.<br \/>&#8220;Take things one day at a time,&#8221;<br \/>Someone once said to me.<br \/>But I would give most anything<br \/>To just have&#8230;certainty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And as we walked along the beach,<br \/>His tiny hand in mine,<br \/>I thought, &#8220;I love these moments<br \/>When everything is fine.&#8221;<br \/>He plops onto the sandy shore<br \/>And scoops a handful of sand.<br \/>Somehow I know God&#8217;s watching<br \/>This life he so carefully planned.<br \/>I know there are no guarantees<br \/>Of what tomorrow holds,<br \/>But I am filled with gratitude<br \/>As each new day unfolds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">These moments make it all so clear.<br \/>And no, I&#8217;m not wise or stronger.<br \/>I am just God&#8217;s child myself<br \/>Always asking, &#8220;Please just a bit longer?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>Do you like what you see at DifferentDream.com?
