But if you aren\u2019t into the mother of all social networks, please forgive the delay in sharing our family\u2019s latest big news.<\/p>\n<p>See, I\u2019ve been waiting to announce Anne\u2019s engagement to her sweetie until she mailed a picture of her ring so I could post it, too. But it hasn\u2019t yet arrived, and I\u2019ve bowed to the inevitable: there may not be a picture until the daughter gets home on Christmas break (she\u2019s at her fiancee&#8217;s home for Thanksgiving) and I can snap a nifty shot of her hand.<\/p>\n<p>So for now, you\u2019ll have to be content with the following juicy wedding tidbits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The wedding will be July 11, exactly three months after Allen\u2019s wedding on April 11. (When one\u2019s children are born 6 years apart, what are the odds, they will get married this close together?)<\/li>\n<li>The wedding guest list will be small as Anne wants to get married under the oak tree in our yard, and the yard has limited seating. But there will be a big reception at the park later in the afternoon.<\/li>\n<li>The wedding party will be not so small &#8211; five groomsmen and five bridesmaids.<\/li>\n<li>Anne will wear my wedding dress.<\/li>\n<li>She\u2019ll sew the deep blue silk bridesmaids\u2019 dresses using my bridesmaids pattern, and she\u2019ll sew vests for the groom and groomsmen to wear. Lest you get the wrong mental picture, they will provide their own pants.<\/li>\n<li>The wedding cake will be carrot.<\/li>\n<li>Anne wants Allen to play the processional on his guitar. Until she told me that, I didn\u2019t know he played the guitar.<\/li>\n<li>Anne will finish her senior year of college at whatever school her fiance is accepted into for grad school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When my mom heard the big news, she said, \u201cSo you\u2019ll lose both your kids at the same time.\u201d But after getting to know the fine young adults who loves my daughter and son as much as Hiram and I do, we see the future in different terms.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re not losing anything. We\u2019re gaining a fine new son and a wonderful new daughter. And we don\u2019t have to potty train them. But, I do get to buy new clothes, and Hiram and I will attend a couple really fun parties.<\/p>\n<p>Sounds like a good deal to me, whether or not I ever get a picture of the ring.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For those of you who check FaceBook regularly, this announcement is old news.
